Jump into Summer Reading with Little Free Libraries

There are now 150,000 Little Free Library book boxes around the world!

By Amanda L. Renna, Publisher at Macaroni KID Palmer-Monson-Ware June 25, 2022

As parents, we're all familiar with the summer slide. A study by the University of Tennessee at Knoxville found reading just 12 books during the summer was as effective as summer school, and it doesn't have to be forced fun. Letting kids choose their own content can give your child plenty of choices and get them excited about picking up a book.

A trip to your nearest Little Free Library can make it even more fun!

Little Free Libraries are available worldwide, with more than 150,000 registered book-sharing boxes in 70 countries. It's estimated 70 million books are shared each year through Little Free Libraries, offering access to books for readers of all ages and backgrounds.

The Little Free Library concept is simple: Anyone may take a book or share a book. (You do not need to share a book in order to take one!)

Using Little Free Libraries is a great way to keep your bookshelf uncluttered, feel good about sharing with others, and score some great new reads for your kids — and you too!
